Cheverly Baptist Church will not be meeting on Sundays or for AWANA through March 31 due to the COVID-19 response. We urge you during this time to continue to praise and worship God for His goodness, look for ways to redeem this unique opportunity, pray for the millions of Christians worldwide who are not able to gather regularly, and to minister to those who are especially hit hard by the situation.
Welcome! We’re glad that you’ve taken some time to explore our website, and hope that you’ll come visit us in person. If you’re wondering what our services are like, you’ll find a description of what to expect below.
What To Expect
When you arrive you will be warmly received by a member of our welcome team. If you have children you will be directed to our children’s ministry check-in area.
Our services last about 90 minutes. In the first half of the service we’ll spend time singing, praying, and reading God’s Word. In the second half one of our pastors will give an expositional message from the Bible.
Regarding attire, you may find some people dressed in jeans and others in suits. We encourage you to wear what makes you feel most comfortable. How you dress is far less important to us than your relationship with God.
We meet every Sunday at 10:00 AM at Bladensburg Elementary School, 4915 Annapolis Rd, Bladensburg, Maryland.
At CBC we take seriously the stewardship that God has given us in caring for our children. We strive to provide a safe environment, so children can learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that is both faithful and fun. The curriculum we use to accomplish this is The Gospel Project.
We provide care and offer classes for children ages 6 months to 5 years. The children are divided into four groups:
- 6-11 months
- 12-23 months
- 2-3 years
- 4-5 years (Pre-K)
The Bible teaches that membership in a local church is one of the most basic ways that Christians follow Jesus. In fact, it is so basic that the authors of the New Testament simply assume that every Christian will be part of a local church. The reason for this is simple. The local church is at the heart of God’s plan to save sinners through the gospel of his son, Jesus Christ.
If you’re interested in joining CBC you’ll first need to attend our membership classes, where we’ll walk you through our statement of faith, our church covenant, and our life together as a church.
Following that we will schedule a time for you to sit down with one of our pastors. Please don’t be intimidated by this. It’s simply an opportunity for us to get to know each other, and for us to hear about how you came to follow Jesus.
After you have attended the membership class and met with a pastor, our congregation will gather at our regularly scheduled members’ meeting to affirm each new member. The reason we do this is that you’re not just making a commitment to a pastor; you’re committing to love, care for, and serve an entire church community, and that church community is making the same commitment to you. It is one way we remind ourselves of the amazing responsibility we have — and honor — to care for one another.
